The Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Alpha Eta Sigma Chapter celebrated its service to the community by holding a public meeting and awards ceremony on June 20 at the Finley Recreation Center. During the meeting, sorority members were awarded for their strides in furthering the organization’s goals. The following received chapter awards: Courtnee Jordan-Cox, Blazing Poodle; Lynette Moragne, Legacy of 1922; Kharma Lundy, Advisor of the Year; Aubria Nance Phillips, Chair of the Year and Soror of the Year. Selena Gillespie was presented the Unsung Heroine Award by Deena Weems, basileus.
During the event, scholarship recipient Krystal Aquino and Wendy Chao, winner of the Mwanamugimu Essay Contest were recognized.
The event also served to highlight successful community service initiatives held during the sorority year such as the Sigma Youth Day, Buckle Up America, Project Africa and the visit to the Northern Home For Children.
The AES Spring 2009 class hosted the successful event.
